$62,000 AWARDED TO CHARGER FOUNDATION FROM TENNESSEE COMMUNITY CARES GRANT

Pandemic-related needs will be met at Four Martin Schools.

MARTIN, TN – The Charger Foundation received $62,000 from the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) through the Tennessee Community CARES Program developed to fund a wide variety of pandemic needs across the state.

These funds will be used to fund a variety of resources in all four Martin schools. Resources include distance learning devices and hardware (50 iPads with cases, 25 laptops with charging stations, five docucams, and four Digital Drawing Tablets) as well as distance learning educational software (13 Osmo Genius Learning Kits, IXL 2020/2021 school year subscription, MagnaHigh 2020/2021 school year subscription).

Funds will also be used to purchase resources that will benefit both in-person and distance learning: a book vending machine, a digital laser cutter, VersaTiles set, and a USB Microscope.

“We were looking for additional ways to support all Martin-area students,” said Charger Foundation Chairman, Elizabeth Pritchett. “We started the year by supplying all school supplies for our students, but we knew that wasn’t where the support could end.”

“When we learned about this grant, we asked the principals to identify COVID-19 related needs,” said Jennings Wilson, Charger Foundation Grants Committee Chair. “And their requests were thoughtful and obviously, worthy of the grant. Courtney Echols and I worked diligently to submit the grant, and we are so proud to be able to pour $62,000 worth of resources into our Martin schools.”

“The support of Betsi Foster, Director of Federal Programs for Weakley County Schools, was imperative, and we are grateful for her,” said Pritchett. “Seeing our students not only survive this pandemic but also thrive is important, and this grant and community partnerships will go a long way in achieving that goal.”

The Charger Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that exists to support Martin schools to become centers of excellence for all students.  For more information on the Charger Foundation, please visit:  https://www.chargerfoundation.org .
